Hopefully Plex would be able to work this out and transcode to DD5.1 for the TV to pass it through to the receiver?Īh yes it is. The surround limitation except over eARC you mention worries me though RTINGS apparently tested this model and it can pass through Dolby Digital 5.1 over both ARC and Optical. So if I'm on an input that's going into the receiver, I'll get sound out of the speakers and video on the TV but if I'm using the TV (for broadcast, YouTube and Plex), will I still be able to get the audio from them using ARC or will I have to use an optical cable anyway? I can't work out, though, whether you can have passthrough and ARC going at the same time. The one I'm looking at has a few HDMI inputs and can pass through 4K which is good as I do intend to get a 4K Blu Ray player at some point. I'm just trying to get my head around how to use it now, though. which is annoying windows only sees stereo capable external devices like comps are always stereo even with passthough. i know for a fact lg tvs will only send surround through earc if its using it apps. Hmmm for the best sound im going to say you need a receiver.
